Brand Design System

SPCSHP

The rebranding of Big Spaceship to SPCSHP and a new identity that represents a community of explorers.

For 20+ years, Big Spaceship has prided itself on remaining nimble to meet client needs through being uniquely output agnostic. Their focus on people over platforms through the intersection of brands and culture, as well as a continuous introspective focus on their own internal culture helped them to remain relevant within the industry as a desirable mid-sized independent creative agency that excels at creating integrated marketing campaigns.

However, being an agency that does everything for anyone and in any medium meant that Big Spaceship was beginning to travel in a much larger galaxy with well-established specialized agencies and big holding companies that have more focused service offerings and a targeted perspective.

In order to re-assess and re-align Big Spaceship went back to focusing on what they do best. Leaning on their strong internal culture of putting people first while cultivating community led business. Big Spaceship, in truth, was really about the idea of “spaceships” that are connected through a community of specialists.

To visually help represent this new found focus, the vowels of Big Spaceship were removed to represent SPCSHP, and a new visual identity was established to help reinforce the notion of a community of spaceships putting human connection at the center of creativity to foster cultural momentum.

A system of “orbs” was created to demonstrate a community of spaceships. Treated as planetary like vessels that bring forth the essence of a larger system of specialized units connecting with one another.

Reveal

The design system was applied to sub-brand identities for SPCSHPs specialized offerings. Reveal is a vibrant community that surfaces how Gen Z views the world through meaningful, qualitative generational insights.

Internet Brunch

Internet Brunch is a community offering insights, trends, and need-to-knows as a daily digest of what is happening in the world, helping us to move at the speed of culture.

Layouts & Composition

A system of visual communication was established to demonstrate how SPCSHP communicates at various altitudes of information.

My role & contribution

The new strategic positioning and identity work for SPCSHP was created in collaboration with OtherWard. As the head of the design discipline at SPCSHP, I helped to translate their foundational thinking into a completed brand design system. This included an expanded brand design guide as well as designed templates, playbooks and adaptive approaches for all internal, external and client facing applications.
